Bandh observed in Kargil

KARGIL, Oct 5: On the call of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), all shops and business establishments in the district today observed complete strike to press the demand for starting the work on Zozilla Tunnel from both ends to ensure its early completion, besides other problems being faced by people.
A rally was taken out from the PDP office led by Advocate Murtaza, Haji Qasim, Kachi Gulzar Khan and Najjaf Ali, which marched through the main streets of the town and culminated at Lal Chowk. Carrying placards people raised slogans against the Government apathy to the problems of Ladakh region.
The demonstrators urged the Government to start work of the Zozilla Tunnel from Minamarg side as well to help lift the siege around Ladakh region soon which remains cut off from rest of the world for six months. They also demanded special package for cooking gas for Ladakh region in view of the climatic conditions.   The demonstrators also expressed deep concern over the malfunctioning of BSNL in Ladakh region, which has resulted in deficit in communication. They demanded that apart from improvement in BSNL services other private service providers should be encouraged to extend their operation to Ladakh region.
