TRIVANDRUM, Nov 24: Eminent Theatre Director and former Cultural Diplomat of India, Padamshree Balwant Thakur inaugurated the first ever ‘Theatre Club’ in Department of Hindi, University of Kerala.
Thakur also presented a lecturer-cum-audiovisual presentation on ‘Necessity for theatre in educational institutions’.
A large number of students and the faculty members of the University participated in the intensive presentation which was aimed at motivating the students to transform their personalities and lives through the magical art of theatre.
Earlier, HoD of Hindi Department, S.R Jayashree delivered welcome address and felicitated Balwant Thakur by presenting him an iconic Kathakali mask which is the ultimate symbol of the classical theatre of India originated from Kerala.
Balwant Thakur opened his presentation with showcasing new emerging trends of theatre worldwide particularly in USA and UK.
Thakur, who holds the credit of having travelled the majority of the world in connection with the intellectual and artistic exchanges, has established himself as one of the new-age theatre maker and practitioner who uses theatre’s immense potential in shaping societies and nations.
He is currently in Kerala on an invitation of Kerala Government.
