Balwant Thakur gets additional charge of Education

JOHANNESBURG, Jan 21: Balwant Thakur, who is currently the Cultural Diplomat of India to South Africa, has been assigned the additional charge of Education as well.
His role of responsibility will also include the Government of India’s educational initiatives in South Africa in addition to culture. India has a huge educational initiative to develop bilateral relations in South Africa and offers over 900 scholarships for the students of African countries for their study in India.
The Government of India has also established 69 Chairs of Indian studies abroad to create a greater understanding about India and Indian civilization amongst the global community and thought leaders.
An accomplished cultural administrator, Balwant Thakur was appointed as the Cultural Diplomat of India to South Africa in 2019 and is currently heading the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre based in the city of Johannesburg.
Being the in charge of education in South Africa, Balwant Thakur will have the mission to establish India as the ultimate educational destination and make India a global hub of education.
