KHOUR, Mar 19: The residents of village Balli in Tehsil Kharah Balli of Chamb Assembly Constituency today held a protest demonstration and blocked the main road against the shortage of drinking water from last almost one month.
A large number of people including women from village Balli in Chamb Constituency assembled on main road at Balli village and lodged protest demonstration against the PHE/Jal Shakti department. They were raising anti-PHE slogans and in support of their demands. They blocked the main road for half an hour to register their protest.
The residents expressed anger over the ignorance of genuine issues by the local DDC Councillor and other PRI’s. They demanded that their demand of drinking water should be solved immediately. They pointed out that local PHE Pumping Station and dug well are not working for the last one month because of which villages like Dori, Dager, Nathal, Balli, Balate are suffering due to scarcity of drinking water.
Bodh Raj Sharma, AAP District spokesperson said that they are facing an acute shortage of drinking water in their village and the PHE Department as well as DDC Councilor along with other PRI’s did not make any efforts for the same. He said that locals are made to be dependent only on the single pond in the area. He said people have to be dependent on alternative arrangements of water supply tankers in the village. They were forced to protest on the road to highlight their demands, he added.
People served the ultimatum to the department to provide adequate drinking water supply otherwise they will hold dharna at the office of Chief Engineer of the PHE Department at Jammu.
Prominent among those present during protest included Romesh Lal Sharma, Raj Kumar Ex- Sarpanch Nathal, Rattan Lal Uppal, Kablu Ram, Rattan Lal, Rashpal, Sushma Devi, Sharda Devi, Darshna Devi and Kunti Devi.
