Baisakhi is a celebration of new life and new beginnings. On this day we should shun all the prejudices and hatred from our hearts. In this month of Baisakhi flowers sprout up,trees get new leaves and the whole atmosphere is renewed. We should also learn new lessons and start a new life in this month. Baisakhi is celebrated differently in various communities in India.
On this day in year 1699, the 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, laid down the foundation of the Panth Khalsa or the Sikh Panth. He also selected the Panch Pyaras or the Beloved Five. For Hindus, it is the start of the New Year, and is celebrated with requisite bathing, feasting, and worshipping. Apart from the Sikhs and Hindus, Baisakhi is a significant day for the Buddhists as well.
On Baisakhi Day
It commemorates the Birth, the Awakening and the Enlightened Passing Away or Nirvana of Gautama Buddha who was born as prince Siddharta. In the Regions of Punjab, Baisakhi is celebrated by farmers as a thanks to God for bountiful harvest and hoping for a better next year. Baisakhi is celebrated in various parts of the country but the principal concept is that of celebrations for the new beginning. However, For those on the spiritual path, Baisakhi truly takes place when they get the life-inspiring glimpses of the spiritual realms within through meditation. Baisakhi officially arrives when our hearts blossom with the flowers of love that are nourished by the intoxicating vistas within. When we come in contact with the love of God within us, that is true beauty and that beautifies the world.
As Baisakhi arrives, let us not only enjoy its outer glories, but let us also find time to sit in meditation. While we delight in the signs of the outer spring with its flowers and fragrances, let us take a portion of our day and enjoy this time of the heavenly realms within. The outer flowers and joyous sounds of this time of the year are but a reflection of the sights and sounds within us. There are regions after regions of extraordinary beauty in realms beyond this world. We can frolic in those meadows and gardens anytime we wish through meditation.
Let us discover eternal Baisakhi for ourselves. Let us make a new beginning by imbibing the virtues in our lives and dedicating sometime of our daily life to meditation. We will then know there is God and we are soul, and will enjoy eternally divine love and union with God. Let us enjoy these moments of Baisakhi.
