JAMMU, Sept 7: An awareness programme on Cervical and Breast Cancer was organized at historical Panchvaktar Temple in Jammu.
The programme was organized by Retired Judge Suresh Sharma. JMC Councilors Anita Sharma and Ritu Choudhary were chief guests on the occasion. Around 40 ladies participated in the programme.
During the programme, Dr Samita Bhat–a renowned Gynae Cancer Surgeon and her team comprising Sunita Bali, Naveen Chopra (a Palliative Care Specialist) and Komal, briefed the gathering about causes, symptoms and cure of Cervical and Breast Cancer. Dr Samita Bhat conducted an excellent and very informative power point presentation, giving detailed understanding of the female reproductive anatomy and the causes of Cervical and Breast Cancer.
Dr Bhat informed the gathering about her dream project “Save Maa” and its objective which is to fight cancer, primarily “Cervical and Breast” which form the largest cases among women. The main thrust of the presentation was awareness and very detailed measures that need to be taken for prevention to detect and stop the advent of cases well in time.
She further took pains to reassure the gathering that cancer is not a death warrant. The secret is to catch it in good time well before it can spread and then there are reasonable chances that it can be cured, she added. Dr Bhat reassured the audience that Cervical Cancer, the largest threat can easily be controlled and even eradicated by relatively simple, effective and cheap means, which she explained in detail.
“Just 2 doses of vaccines for girls of age group 9 to 14 years and 3 for older girls up to even 26 years and beyond can prevent Cervical Cancer in them. It is just as simple as that,” she added. With regard to Breast Cancer, she explained the early signs and symptoms after witnessing which, she said, the girls should immediately go for a professional checkup.
