JAMMU, Feb 14: An awareness Camp on “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan” was conducted today at Raipur Satwari by ICDS Project Satwari where State Mission Director ICDS, Dr. G. N. Itoo was the chief guest.
Dr Itoo said that under “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan” the Awareness Programmes are being conducted in the entire State to check the declining sex ratio and educate the people about the causes behind.
He said that through this abhiyan we can empower the girls and encourage them to study further. By awaking the people regarding the female feticide and its ill effects we can control the declining sex ratiom he said and further stressed the field functionaries of ICDS department to track the declining girl population. He also highlighted the importance of girl empowerment and its positive effects on society.
Kanta Rukwal, P.O. ICDS Jammu, said that nearly Fifty Programmes would be conducted in Jammu District. The other who attended the camp were Dr. Manohar Rana, BMO Sohanjana, Sarpanches, Panches, local social workers, Supervisors, Anganwadi Workers, Anganwadi Helpers and ASHA Workers.
Performance was given by Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan, Jammu an cultural group regarding the Female Foeticide and its consequences. Further the girls of the area who had excelled in different fields were rewarded by Mission Director ICDS for setting an example.
It would be important to mention that according to the 2011 Census Report, the Jammu and Samba are the worst performing Districts in respect of Child Sex Ratio.
