KISHTWAR, Feb 9: Police foiled ATM loot attempt with the arrest of a computer operator engaged with PMGSY on contractual basis.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar Yougal Manhas, during the intervening night of January 8 and 9, police party on night patrolling in Kishtwar town noticed some suspicious movement and also heard some noise from inside the ATM of SBI installed at Saboor Complex, mini-bus stand, Kishtwar.
SSP stated that police patrolling party acting swiftly rushed at ATM site, where they found one person breaking the ATM machine and trying to steal the cash from the machine with criminal intention.
Police arrested the accused, who has been identified as Ravi Sharma, son of Nand Lal of Lohidhar Chatroo, SSP said, adding that the accused was engaged as computer operator with PMGSY Division Chatroo on contractual basis.
Mr Manhas added that the concerned ATM authorities were called and after inspecting the ATM machine, cash amounting to Rs 16 lakh was found intact in the machine.
A case under FIR number 15/15 under Sections 457, 380 and 511 RPC has been registered at police station Kishtwar and investigation started, SSP informed.
