Arrangements for Baisakhi Festival finalized

JAMMU, Apr 9: Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Shantmanu took stock of the preparations being made for the Baisakhi Festival being celebrated from April 12 to 16 in a meeting of officers convened here today.
Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Kiran Wattal, Director Tourism, Soujanaya Sharma, Director Health, B.S. Pathania, ADC Jammu K.S. Parihar, Superintendent Engineer M&RE, K.K. Raina, senior officers of Police and Traffic, President of various Trade and Bazar Associations, Ravi Mahajan, Kuldeep Wahi, Inderjeet Khajuria, Jatinder Koul, Vijay Gupta, V.K. Sehgal, Chairman Tourism Promotion Council, representative of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangreholaya Bhopal besides others were present on the occasion.
Finalizing the arrangements for the Baisakhi Festival, the Divisional Commissioner stressed for proper coordination between various agencies associated with the Mela for smooth conduct of the event. He said adequate arrangements should be made well before time for the convenience of visitors and to make the prestigious event a success.
Director Tourism apprised that Tourism Department in collaboration with other departments and representatives of different private organizations would be organizing the festival at Mubarak Mandi, Akhnoor, Surinsar/ Mansar and Kanak Mandi, Veermarg/ Raghunath Bazar.
On the inaugural day i.e April 12 free Tonga ride has been organized from Kanak Mandi, Veermarg and Raghunath Bazar for the first time thus reviving the cultural tradition of City of Temples.
Various associations related to tourism trade industry and associated bazars have also announced attractive discounts for the visitors. Every item would be sold at Rs. 10 at Kanak Mandi stalls besides all retail items would be offered on wholesale rates. The Virmarg Traders Association has announced 20 percent discount on hotels and lodges besides special discount by Raghunath Bazar Association has also been offered.
The festival days would include cultural programmes, food stalls on subsidized rates at all the venues particularly at Mubarak Mandi besides J&K Indian Style Wrestling Competition will also be held at Surinsar on April 14, Aarti at Jio Potho, Akhnoor besides other alluring events.
