Arrange Rs 12 cr for pvt land acquisition: DB to Forest Secy

JAMMU, May 14: In the much publicized Public Interest Litigation seeking conservation of Gharana wetland, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Sindhu Sharma today directed the Commissioner Secretary to Government Forest Department to consider arranging Rs 11 crore to Rs 12 crore for furthering the proceedings to acquire private land.
After hearing Senior Advocate PN Raina with Advocate JA Hamal for the private persons whereas Advocate Karan Sharma for the PIL and Senior AAG SS Nanda for the State, the DB observed, “status report has been filed by the respondents, in which further six weeks time has been sought with a view to explore the possibility of identification of alternate State land and the willingness of to be affected families to accept the alternate site”.
“It is also stated that with a view to take carry on the acquisition proceedings, the Wildlife Department be asked to tentatively arrange an amount of Rs 11 crore to Rs 12 crore”, the DB further observed.
After gone through the status report, DB directed Secretary Forest Department to consider arranging the tentative amount, which is deemed necessary at this stage for furthering the acquisition proceedings.
