JAMMU, May 18: Expressing his serious concern over hardship being faced by the passengers belonging to different parts of the province who are stranded at Jammu due to lockdown, former Minister and senior BJP leader Bali Bhagat today appealed administration of the Union Territory (UT) to provide transport facility to these passengers.
Amid the ongoing lockdown to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, hundreds of people from Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Ramban and Banihal have been stranded at Jammu. Bhagat appealed the J-K administration to arrange transport facilities for these people as they are facing hardships in the absence of proper arrangements.
“A large number of people, including migrant labourers, from outside are stranded in Jammu after the administration ordered a shutdown of all establishments across the Union Territory on March 25”, the former Minister said, adding these stranded people are shuffling between the bus stand and the deputy commissioner’s office here with the hope to attract the attention of the authorities towards their plight but nothing has been done so far.
He demanded that like other states, SRTC buses should be deployed to take these helpless people to their native places. He said that stranded people are not infected with the virus but if the situation continues like this, they may be infected. “The Government should take note of pleas of these people and immediately arrange the bus service so that they can unite with their families at this hour of crisis,” Bali asserted.
