Srinagar, Jan 29: In a significant development, Army today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) and Extra marks Education Foundation (EEF) for digitization of five Army Goodwill Schools.
An Army spokesman said the digitization of five Army Goodwill Schools (AGS) which includes AGS Uri and Ziran in Baramulla, AGS Margund in Ganderbal, AGS Pahalgam in Anantnag and Pine Wood School in Poonch is aimed to impart knowledge in a more meaningful and effective manner.
“The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen JS Sandhu, Maj Gen Kr Vijay Singh Lalotra (retd) and Hemant Kumar Mallick among others. Brig Rajeev Thapar, Brigadier General Staff (Information System) as representative of Headquarters 15 Corps signed two MoUs with Dr. Jaydeep Singh Chouhan, Chief Manager (HR), PGCIL and Poonam Singh Jamwal, CEO, EEF,” he said
“Speaking on the occasion, GOC 15 Corps said that schools around the world are using technology during the teaching–learning process for better comprehension and assimilation. Therefore, this pilot project will become a game changer in imparting knowledge in a more meaningful and effective manner,” he said. Adding, “Moving to Digital Education, AGSs would be in line with the nation’s vision of making education democratic and affordable and this would immensely benefit the students, teachers and parents and change the dynamics of teaching-learning process in the remote areas of J&K.”
He further added that Hemant Kumar Mallick, Executive Director, PGCIL, Northern Region II, said that it is a momentous occasion which will go a long way in providing qualitative and quantitative education to the children residing especially in far flung areas of the State.
Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) is a “Navratna” Company of Government of India which transmits 50% of total power generated in India. Through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, PGCIL has agreed to invest in Digitisation of Classrooms in AGSs in J&K.
EEF is a non-profit organization which works for under resourced schools for improving the education standards. In conjunction with PGCIL, EEF will be implementing the pilot project with their software and human resource interventions. They will also be involved in providing educational tablets, training and software support on a regular basis.
