MENDHAR, Apr 30: The Bhimber Gali Brigade and the local population of Mendhar got together to commemorate the supreme sacrifice made by six gallant sons of the soil while assisting the Army on the war front during the 1965 Indo-Pak conflict.
The annual ‘Shahidi Diwas’ at Mendhar marks the recognition and gratitude of the Army to these brave civilians who laid down their lives in the service to the nation as well as the continued commitment of the civilian population to work hand in hand with the Army to thwart any nefarious designs of the enemy.
The observations included wreath laying at the Shahid Smarak by the chief guest, Commanding Officer 21 Punjab, Col Manish Rana, followed by presentation of patriotic songs by school children and citizens of the town.
CO, 21 Punjab, while addressing the gathering, saluted the indomitable courage of these martyrs and impressed upon the public to emulate the rich and gallant legacy left behind by these patriots.
The programme ended with presentation of gifts to next of kins of the martyrs by the Commander. This event was attended by officers of the District and Tehsil administration including Naib Tehsildar Mendhar, Aftab Hussain Shah, SDPO Mendhar, Surinder Choudhary, BMO Mendhar, Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, local Congress leader, Zaffer Ulla Azad, M S Naki, president, Press Council of Mendhar Poonch and other prominent citizens.
