SRINAGAR, Oct 6: Three infiltrating militants were killed on the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector of the North Kashmir after Army challenged a group of militants early today.
An Army spokesman said here that Army troops in the forward areas of Tangdhar killed three militants who were infiltrating from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) early today.
The spokesman said that these militants were engaged at the LoC fence and three of them were eliminated by the alert troops operating in the area. “Bodies of these terrorists were recovered from the site along with three AK 47 Rifles, ammunition and other warlike stores”, the spokesman added.
The spokesman said that troops deployed along the LoC in the Tangdhar sector observed the movement of a group of terrorists along the fencing early morning. “The counter infiltration grid was reinforced while the terrorists were kept under constant surveillance till they crossed the LoC fencing”, the spokesman added.
“The terrorists were effectively engaged resulting in elimination of all the three terrorists. Search of the area was undertaken and three dead bodies along with 3 AK-47, 78 rounds of AK-47, 7 Magazines, one radio set, one night vision device, two hand grenades and other warlike stores were recovered. Identity of the terrorists is yet to be ascertained”, the spokesman said.
Army sources, however, said that troops noticed the movement of a group of at least 5 militants who were trying to infiltrate through Tangdhar sector. “The group was challenged leading to an encounter in which 3 militants were killed and two others managed to escape back to the PoK”, they said.
Sources said that troops have launched massive searches in the area to look for any more militants. “The search operation was on when reports last reached in”, they added.
Sources said that at least 200 militants are waiting for the cross over near the LoC in PoK but the strong counter-infiltration grid is preventing them from infiltration. They said that the troops deployed along the LoC have intensified patrolling and vigil as these militants are making attempts to get in before the onset of winter.
The spokesman said that Lt General Subrata Saha, GOC Chinar Corps, commended the troops for their effective actions toward maintaining the sanctity of the LoC. “There have been repeated attempts of infiltration over the past few weeks. However in spite of the Army’s deployment on flood relief, the counter infiltration grid has remained secure resulting in the elimination of 18 terrorist neutralised in the past 30 days”, the spokesman added.
