Srinagar, Nov 5: Army today foiled a major infiltration bid in Kamalkote sector of Uri near the Line of Control in North Kashmir district of Baramulla, killing two militants.
Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said two militants were killed in Uri sector after “alert troops foiled the infiltration bid”.
Sources said that troops of 8 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of Army noticed the movement of some militants near the LoC fence in Kamalkote sector this morning. The troops challenged the infiltrators leading to a gun battle in which two militants were killed.

In the meantime, Army operation in Macchil sector in Lashdat area near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district continued for third consecutive day today.
On Friday, Army foiled a major infiltration bid along the LoC in Macchil sector killing a militant and recovered one weapon. However, the operation in the area continued as three militants are believed to be still hiding in the area taking advantage of dense forests.
The troops of 21 Raj Rifles and 57 RR deployed in the area at Lashdat in Macchil sector continued their operation against them for third day today.

However, clashes erupted between protesters and security forces after the latter launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the village. Youth took to streets and pelted stones on the security forces leading to clashes which lasted for about four hours. Security forces fired tear smoke and pellets to disperse the protesters during which four protesters were injured. However, the search operation was later called off.
The clashes also erupted in Murran Chowk in Pulwama town this evening. Security forces fired tear smoke to disperse the protesters.
