JAMMU, Apr 13: The Army today evacuated several critically injured persons and children from an accident site near Nagrota to its medical facility at Nagrota.
At around 0720 hours today, a column of Army while carrying out Road Opening duties on Nagrota Bypass came to know of an accident on the old Nagrota road between a Toyota Qualis and a bus.
Despite the road being out of the Army party’s area of responsibility, the column Commander of the Road Opening Party realizing the grave humanitarian crisis and his proximity to the site moved his party to the site and took control of the situation before any help from civil administrative could be rushed to the accident site.
Assessing the time criticality of the situation, the column Commander and his party acted quickly to evacuate the critically injured in their own vehicles while concurrently informing the civilian authorities also.
By the time the injured arrived at the medical inspection Room at Nagrota all necessary arrangement to receive the casualties were kept ready by the Army medical authorities. Army ambulances were also immediately dispatched to the site to provide succor to the other injured civilians.
All injured persons and children were provided immediate first aid and thereafter evacuated to Government Medical College Jammu in an Army ambulance. The timely and prompt action by the Army persons not only prevented any loss of life at the accident site but also elucidated the will of the Armed Forces to provide humanitarian assistance well beyond the precincts of orders or jurisdiction.
The condition of all the injured persons is reportedly stable now.
