SRINAGAR, May 10: In ongoing efforts to reach out to the public, the army’s 14 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Bandipora distributed solar lanterns to all the mosques, temples and gurdwaras.
An official said that a total of 101 solar lanterns were distributed to the religious heads of the religious places of worship in Erin, Dardpura, Chuntimulla, Kulus, Sumlar, Kudor and Bandipora town.
“The most of the villages being remote areas are adversely affected by frequent power cuts. The villagers have always been demanding electricity which is a genuine requirement and provision for the same will play a major role in bringing them about a sense of well being”, the official said, adding that since solar energy is the key non-conventional resource, unaffected by power cuts, the army decided to provide solar lanterns.
The solar lanterns were distributed during the ceremony held at Erin and Bandipur.
Maulana Imran of Jamiya Shok Baba mentioned that this gesture will be of great assistance to all the villagers especially to the senior citizens who come to attend the prayers at these places of worship.
