Army Chief stresses on core values of honesty, selflessness

NEW DELHI, Oct 14:

Bringing honesty and selflessness as the core values in the army was one of his key focus areas, Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh said today.

“As part of my key result areas that I have given out, these values (honesty, selflessness and righteousness) are included. That is the reason when I say that we should go back to basics, it is by the virtue of these core values,” he said.

The Army Chief was addressing a gathering at the function to release a book by Sudesh G B Singh on her husband late Maj Gen Gurbaksh Singh.

Soon after taking over from Gen V K Singh, Gen Bikram Singh has been stressing on reviving the core values of the Army.

Meanwhile, the Army chief will tomorrow start discussions with his commanders and other senior officials over the security situation along the borders with China and Pakistan and the operational preparedness of troops.

This will be the first Commanders’ Conference of Gen Bikram Singh as the Chief of Army Staff.

In the three-day Commanders’ Conference starting tomorrow, the Army will discuss the security situation and the steps for improving the preparedness of the troops, army officials said.

The issue of attack choppers and their deployment in the future is also expected to be discussed, they said. The Defence Ministry has recently approved attack choppers for the army. The issue of increasing jointness with other Services is also expected to be taken up during the meeting. (PTI)
