Srinagar, Dec 30: Scores of people today staged a protest against the unscheduled power cuts at Aglar village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Hundreds of people from Aglar and adjoining areas today took to streets against the Power Development Department (PDD) and shouted slogans against the unscheduled power cuts. The protesters also blocked the Zainapora-Shopian road for five hours, resulting in the complete halt of vehicular movement.
“We are facing an acute shortage of electricity from last one month and receive just one to two hours electricity every day,” a protester said, adding no one was listening to them and the authorities have hiked their electricity dues, despite “insufficient” electricity.
The protesters were also demanding action against the concerned Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) whom they accused of turning a deaf ear to their grievances.  “He has also hiked our electricity dues,” they said and requested the Chief Engineer PDD to look into the matter personally.
