POONCH, June 27: Local administration launched anti-encroachment drive and demolished shops, residential houses constructed on Nallah, due to which water after rainfall often used to enter residential area and market at Surankote town in Poonch.
Official sources said that the Executive Magistrate Surankote along with Police, CRPF and Municipality officials were present on the spot during operation today in which two shops and one residential house on nallah were demolished near BDO Office, while the drive is said to remain continue till encroachments are not removed completely in Surankote town.
Earlier, the Administration had asked these encroachers to remove illegal structures themselves from Nallah but this did not budge at all, Now, since the rainy season has almost started, the Sub Divisional Administration directed Tehsildar and SDPO to remove all the illegally raised structures which cause massive damage to the public property during rains and create flood like situation in the town.
Naib Tehsildar Surankote, Mohd Afzal said that encroachment on the main Nallah in Surankote is the major reason that water after rainfall enters into the residential houses, that is why this drive has been started. He said beginning has been made and some more structures will be demolished in next couple of days. He said all the illegal structures have been identified and notices also served to the illegal encroachers.
Pertinent to mention that many people faced inconvenience hardly two days ago when flood water entered in some residential houses and shops through this overflowing Nallah. The people again raised question on the negligence of Administration having abandoned operation last time. The encroacher whose house was demolished today said that many people in the vicinity have raised illegal structures but why he alone was targeted by the Administration. Tehsildar, however, said that many more structures creating blockage in the Nallah will be dismantled shortly.
