Reasi, Mar 16: A 3-4 year-old leopard was found killed in an accident in Simbal Choa area of Reasi district in the wee hours of Friday.
Apparently, the cat was knocked down by some speeding vehicle when it was probably trying to cross the road. This is the second incident of death of leopard under mysterious circumstances in the area.
Confirming the news, Wildlife Warden Jammu Amit Sharma said, “The female leopard was killed in road accident after being hit by an unidentified vehicle speeding on the road. The animal was apparently trying to cross the road at the time of incident. The Forensic Lab took the samples from the scene and investigation has been started in this connection.”
It is pertinent to mention here that three days back, a 5 -7 yrs old female leopard was found dead in Chenab river near Damtop area. That dead body of the leopard had several bullets and pellets injury marks while its one foot was also found chopped off.
The Wildlife Department is still clueless over the probable hunters, who had injured the leopard.
