SRINAGAR, Jan 17: The Jammu and Kashmir Anganwadi and ASHA Workers Union today protested here and demanded increase in honorarium.
Scores of the Anganwadi and Asha workers from several districts of Kashmir assembled outside Press colony here and raised anti-Government slogans.
The protest was staged in the wake of recent statement issued by Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu wherein he had said that Asha and Anganwadi workers are center sponsored employees  and State has nothing to do with them.
The protesters demanded increase in honorarium for both workers and helpers in Anganwadi centres.
Vice President, Anganwadi Centres Association, Latiefa Ganie, said, “We have already requested the State Government to increase the honorarium of Anganwadi workers and helpers. The State Government is providing six hundred rupees for helpers and three hundred rupees for workers. Extra honorarium is provided by the Central Government,” he said,  adding they were demanding maximum honorarium of 10,000 rupees for workers and 18,000 rupees for helpers.
The protestors said that besides doing the Anganwadi work, they also perform duties of Health Department, Education Department and Social Welfare Department. “But we are never paid for the extra work,” they said.
