3000 kanal land under illegal occupation: Govt

JAMMU, Jan 17:  The State Government has claimed that over 3,000 kanals of State land was under illegal occupation of various individuals at various locations in Jammu city and its outskirts.
In a written reply to the question of BJP member Vikram Randhawa in the Upper House today, Minister Incharge Revenue, A R Veeri said as per record available, 3,036 kanals and four marlas of land in villages Kanhachak, Laliyal, Panjore and Sunjuwan are under illegal occupations of various individuals.
Randhawa sought reply from the Government whether it was fact that several influential persons including senior politicians and others have unauthorisedly on manipulations, occupied large tracts of restricted lands along the banks of river Chenab.
“Out of the State land under unauthorised occupation, an area measuring 1,740 kanals and one marla has already been retrieved the remaining land was under occupation, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the land laws governing the same,” the Minister said.
In response to another question the Minister said, “no such report has been received with regard to the State land more than 10 kanals under authorised occupation in these villages.
The entries in the revenue records are not maintained on the basis of profession of any individuals, he said adding, “therefore there is no information of any influential person or senior politician having occupied large pieces of lands un-authorisedly.”
Replying to another whether it is a fact that some of the encroachers have raised farm house in sensitive areas like Lalyal and other places close to Indo-Pak border, the Government said no farm house exists close to the Indo-Pak border  at Lalyal village.
