Ancient shrine of Baba Shivo crying for attention

SAMBA, June 21: With the authorities concerned sleeping over the issue, the ancient shrine of Baba Shivo popularly known as Baba Goran, an old and historic site in the vicinity of the hilly terrain of Samba district is crying for attention.
Devotees from Hindu and Muslim community thronged the shrine in large but it has been neglected by the district authorities till date despite the fact that the shrine is greatest pilgrimage centre in Samba district.
“Everyday hundreds of people throng to the hills of Samba to seek the blessings of Baba Goran, This holy shrine witness thousands of devotees every Sunday and Tuesday but the authorities have not made adequate arrangements for pilgrims, who come from different parts of the State,” said Jai Omkar Singh, a local resident of Goran village.
Accommodation availability is utterly minimal, there are no proper arrangements of water, electricity, toilet, bathrooms and Medicare facilities in this holy shrine. its dilapidated road is waiting for immediate renovation and up gradation by the authorities concerned. Commuters and inhabitants are facing lot of difficulties due to broken roads with big potholes, he added.
The Shrine was neglected by successive governments. Goran village where Baba’s Shrine is situated, lacks development activities since decades and people managed the development activities of shrine at their own, said Ramesh Sharma, another local resident.
The district authorities have done nothing. There was no construction between Samba to Sumb and Goran roads. Vehicles cannot ply on the road which is in a bad condition and hinder influx of devotees. “We demand to construct or repair Samba-Goran road at an earliest”, he added.
Baba Goran (Shivo) lived about 200 years ago and is revered by people because of his saintly qualities and spiritual powers. It is said that the Baba Goran fulfils all the wishes of an individual if the devotee prays with a true heart and strong determination. Many people ask for wishes to the Baba and then offer Bhandara (charity kitchen) at the temple after the wish is fulfilled.
