AMRAVATI, April 16 : Police have arrested four more accused in connection with the sexual exploitation and circulation of objectionable videos on social media in Amravati-Paratwada, officials said.
With this, the number of accused has risen to eight. Police are keeping a close watch on those circulating the videos. SIT investigation is underway.
Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Vishal Anand informed reporters that no victimised girls or their parents have come forward to file a formal complaint yet.
The first arrest in this case, which has caused a sensation across the state, was of a 19-year-old prime accused, Ayan Ahmad.
Subsequently, police arrested three more individuals yesterday for circulating obscene videos and photographs on social media.
Today, four more people who were supplying this material to each other were handcuffed.
Among them is a youth residing in a rented flat on Kathora Road, within the jurisdiction of the Gadge Nagar Police Station.
He had provided this flat to the accused, Ayan Ahmad. Police have completed the spot inspection (panchnama) of the site and conducted a house search.
During interrogation, the accused Ayan confessed to sexually exploiting the victims at his friend’s flat.
The police have arrested the friend who provided the flat, identified as Manav Deepak Sugandhe (20), resident of Arvi, currently residing in Amravati.
Additionally, the police arrested Aifaz Khan Manzur Khan (26), Mohammad Imran Mohammad Sajid (21) and Sheikh Naved Sheikh Hassan (21), all three residents of Achalpur for receiving and circulating the objectionable videos on social media.
The SP informed that based on technical investigation, a laptop, tab and hard disk were seized during search of the house of Aifaz, one of the accused involved in sharing the photos and videos.
These devices will be examined by forensic experts. A total of eight people have been arrested so far, and the search is ongoing for others who are suspected to have circulated the objectionable videos.
Given the scope and seriousness of the crime, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shubham Kumar has been formed to conduct a thorough investigation. (UNI)
