JAMMU, Sept 13: Amid internet restrictions and lockdown, two students Aryan Gupta and Naveed-ul Amin from Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir topped the JEE Mains exam by scoring 99.77 and 99.23 percentile respectively. The result of JEE Mains exam was announced two days back.
Hailing from Channi Himmat area of Jammu and son of Anil Gupta and Ruchi, Aryan Gupta scored the highest in the Union Territory for the second time. He had attempted the exams in January 2020 also and scored 99.73 percentile, which was the highest in Jammu and Kashmir.
While talking to the EXCELSIOR Aryan said, “Instead of ruing the lack of the internet services, which was suspended in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5 last year, I went ‘offline’ to prepare for the entrance test. After the restoration of the 2G services in the Jammu and Kashmir, my teachers conducted online sessions, which helped me a lot, he added. Click here to watch video
“I got full support of my family and my teachers as they kept me motivating. What I achieved today, is due to their motivation only”, Aryan asserted.
“My father Anil Gupta, who is Civil Engineer and presently posted as Assistant Engineer (AE) in the J&K High Court Janipur, mother Ruchi, a homemaker and my elder sister who also is an Engineer, all played a major role in keeping me motivated”, he said and added that his teachers also played a pivotal role in this success.
“It sounds easy when one says that you have to be focused, but to sustain it is not so easy. Revising the same thing again and again is not easy, especially with uncertainty over the conduct of the exam,” he said, while referring to the delay in the JEE Mains which were originally scheduled to be held in April.
When asked which stream he chooses after passing the JEE-Advanced exam, Aryan Gupta said he intends to study Computer Science at IIT-Delhi.
“I will attempt as many mock tests as possible in the coming days, so as to get well prepared for the JEE-Advanced exam, which will be held on September 27”, Gupta added.
After passing class 10th from KC Public School, Aryan continued his studies till 12th class in the same institute. He scored 97.8 per cent marks in the class 12th examination. He had his coaching classes from Vidya Mandir Class (VMC) Bahu Plaza Jammu.
“Stay positive and dedicated viz follow the guidance of teachers to be successful in life”, he said in a message to the youth.
Meanwhile, a 19-year-old-boy from north Kashmir’s Kupwara district has scored nearly 99.23 percentile in JEE-Mains despite curbs on the internet and lockdown.
Naveed-ul Amin achieved the feat when the Valley was grappling with internet shutdown and lockdown that was enforced after the annulment of Article 370. He feels that students should not make adversity as a deterrent in achieving their goal and keep striving towards their objective.
“Everybody faces shortcomings in one or the other way. We should recognize our conditions and plan,” he said. He continued that although the students in the Valley faced tough times in the last one year, “we had no choice but to keep working hard.”
Pointing towards the obstacles he faced in achieving this feat, he said: “I was not even aware of my exam dates. My cousin informed me about it. I had to turn away from the facilitation Centre, that government had set up in Valley during the shutdown, many times because of the massive rush of students,” he said. He considers himself lucky. “Had the government not extended the dates for Kashmiri students, I would have missed the opportunity, “he said.
He is the first member of his family to prefer a career in engineering. “Except my cousin, no one is into engineering. I am passionate about it. I want to crack JEE Advanced and am preparing hard for it,” he said.
To pursue his dream, Naveed moved to Srinagar for schooling. He had his schooling in Srinagar from class VI. Later he passed class 12th from Government Higher Secondary School, Batamaloo.
What makes Naveed’s story unusual is the fact that he has achieved the feat when all the communication channels were shut down in the Valley. “I was not in touch with my mentors and could not access the test series. I did everything offline and from books. It was challenging for me to sit in exams with no assessment,” he said, adding the absence of internet impacted to him, but his determination served him.
Naveed ul Amin is preparing hard for the JEE Advanced test to be held on September 27. “I qualified JEE Mains last year too with 98 percentile. My real aim is to crack the JEE Advanced. I am working hard for it,” he told EXCELSIOR.
Slow internet speed is not a big worry for him. “If I compare the facility with the last year, I feel blessed. I manage things at this speed. I have no time to complain and have to make the best use of the available resources,” he said.
However, Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has extended his heartiest congratulations to Aryan Gupta and Naveed-Ul-Amin for cracking the prestigious JEE Mains exam with flying colors.
In his message, the Lt Governor observed that youth of J&K inherently are very capable and ambitious and the UT Government is committed to providing them with the best enabling environment to facilitate and nurture their capabilities.
He underlined that their success is not only a matter of pride for the entire J&K but it will also inspire many more youngsters to prepare, compete, and excel at National and International levels. He wished all the qualified candidates success in their future endeavors.
