To ensure a smooth and incident-free examination, the administration had deployed one observer each from the General Administration Department and District Administration, along with a Magistrate, at every centre.
“Of 22,573 candidates enrolled, 13,732 appeared in the prelims examination conducted across the UT in 53 centres,” Sachin Jamwal, Additional Secretary JKPSC and Controller of Examination, told the Excelsior.
Division wise, Jamwal said 9,885 candidates took up the examination in 37 examination centres in the Jammu province, while 3,847 candidates appeared in 16 examination centres set up in the Kashmir province.

He said 14,705 candidates had registered for the examination in Jammu, where 8,925 candidates appeared across 34 centres set up by the administration.
Similarly, Jamwal said 1,050 candidates had enrolled for the examination in Rajouri, of which 661 appeared in two centres, while 299 candidates appeared in one centre set up in Doda district, where 510 candidates had registered.
In the Srinagar district, he said 2,516 candidates took the prelims across 11 centres established by the administration, where 4,139 candidates had enrolled.
“While 776 candidates appeared in three centres set up in Anantnag, where 1,257 candidates had enrolled, 555 turned up in Baramulla to take the examination conducted in two centres where 857 candidates had registered,” he added.
Pertinently, the advertisement for 80 posts of Junior Scale JKAS officers, J&K Accounts (G) Service, and J&K Police (G) Service was issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission on August 22 this year, with December 7 set as the prelims examination date.
The application process began on August 25, and September 30 (extended) was set as the last date for submission. The Commission made the admit cards available on its website on December 1.

Of the 80 advertised posts, 30 are unreserved; 7 each are reserved for RBA, OBC, SC, and EWS categories; 9 posts each are reserved for ST-I and ST-II categories; and 2 posts are reserved for residents living close to LAC and IB areas.
This year, the Commission had fixed a maximum age limit of 32 years for Open Merit candidates, 34 years for reserved or in-service candidates, and 35 years for Physically Challenged persons.
However, the elected Government sought relaxation in the upper age limit to 35 years for Open Merit candidates, 37 years for reserved or in-service candidates, and 38 years for Physically Challenged candidates.
