JAMMU, Apr 22: J&K BJP spokesperson, Balbir Ram Rattan today welcomed the amendment in ‘Epidemic Disease Act 1987’ and said that it would induce a sense of security among health fraternity.
He termed the decision as an urgent requirement in view of the cases of attacks on the doctors and para-medicos those who have been performing their duties tirelessly after the outbreak of novel Coronavirus.
Rattan said these are the people, who are away from their families and providing health care facilities, conducting tests to identify virus infected people and treating them by putting their own lives at risk but unfortunately they have been misbehaved, attacked and injured in some parts of the country and the administration was helpless in absence of any strict legal provision to punish the culprits.
He said the Government has cleared with this act that now onwards not just such violence is cognizable but also a non bailable offence, the Government has sent a very loud message that any crime against the frontline health workers would not be tolerated and if any one indulging in such violence would be liable to be booked under non-bailable offence.
“The Union Government has already announced Rs fifty lakh per person insurance cover for all doctors, nurses and para-medical staff fighting coronavirus”, Balbir said and added that it itself speaks of the concern of the Government towards these frontline warriors.
