Amarnath Yatra vehicles to have RFID tags: CRPF

JAMMU, June 13: To ensure a safe and secure Shri Amarnath Yatra, a meeting was held at CRPF Headquarters, JK Zone, here today, which was attended by senior officers of JKP and CRPF, besides officials of the J&K Traffic Police.
The officers of the JKP and CRPF in Jammu Zone were addressed by Dr SP Vaid, DGP J&K and VSK Kaumudi, SDG, CRPF.
The vehicles used by the pilgrims will be tagged with RFID tags, which will enable the security forces to have real time information on the movement and location of the vehicles and to extend help to vehicles which may have broken down or are otherwise in need of any assistance, a CRPF spokesman informed.
“The tagging facility will be made available in a special dedicated lane at Lakhanpur for vehicles from other States proceeding on the yatra route. The Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp, Jammu will be another major tagging point for the yatra vehicles. Tagging will also be done at taxi stands, bus stands, railway station and the airport at Jammu”, he added.
He stated that the forces will be undertaking a multi-pronged approach to sensitize the pilgrims as well as tourists on the need to register their vehicles during the period of the yatra, as it will be in public interest.
