CHANDIGARH, Jun 6 : Days after he expressed reservations over the appointment of its Punjab unit chief, BJP leader Amarinder Singh on Saturday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed various issues concerning the state.
Singh also met Union Health Minister J P Nadda and the two leaders discussed many political issues including Punjab.
The buzz about 84-year-old Singh, who quit the Congress in 2021, being not happy had grown after he raised questions on the appointment of Kewal Singh Dhillon as Punjab BJP chief, saying he was not consulted.
After the meetings, Singh wrote on X, “Had a meeting with Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji today in New Delhi and discussed various issues concerning Punjab.”
In another post, he said, “Met Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Shri J.P. Nadda Ji in New Delhi today and discussed various issues concerning Punjab.”
Singh also shared photos of his meetings with the two leaders.
Nadda, a former BJP national president, said he and Singh discussed many political issues including Punjab.
“Met senior BJP leader and former Punjab Chief Minister @capt_amarinder Ji in New Delhi today. We discussed many Political issues including Punjab,” Nadda said in a post on X.
Singh has been mincing no words in expressing his reservation to 76-year-old Dhillon being handed over reins of Punjab BJP months before the 2027 assembly polls.
He had recently said, “I don’t think Kewal is in a position what BJP wishes him to deliver.”
Like Singh, Dhillon too served in the Congress for a long time before joining the BJP in 2022.
BJP senior spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal on Friday scotched rumours that Singh could jump ship and return to the Congress.
“These are just rumours. He is not going anywhere, he is with BJP,” Baliawal asserted.
Punjab polls are scheduled early next year and the BJP has said it will fight on its own. (PTI)
