Alumini and education

Sir,
Education is a powerful instrument of change and the more educated and literate the citizens of a country are, the more prosperous and developed she is.But despite kickstarting a no. of ambitious schemes involving huge investment of money,we, in India have not been not able to provide infrastructure, well equipped labs, well stocked libraries, buildings, drinking water facilities, toilets etc. in many government schools, especially in remote and inaccessible areas. The result is that we are not in a position to impart quality education to our students in such areas. It is here that it becomes the moral duty of the alumini of such schools who got education and then employment to repay their debt to their almamaters by rendering their help in constructng buildings and providing other infrastructural facilities to schools, especially in rural areas. They also need to devote some time in delivering educational lectures, providing guidance and extending financial support to the students belonging to the economically poor families. In advanced and developed countries, it is a tradition that the rich and well off often provide these facilities to the schools where they studied in their early days thus supplementing the government’s efforts to provide the best of these facilities. In order to do this,a committee can be formed at the local( village/ panchayat) level to mobilise funds and then to oversee and monitor the construction/ financial support,of course in consultation of the school authorities/ department of school education, out of the money, pooled by the former students and affluent people of the area.
If such a movement is started on voluntary basis, it will revolutionise the education in the area, which in turn, will lead to the development of the country making her a prosperous nation. It is hoped that all the citizens will participate in the noble act of providing infrastructural and other facilities and thus, contribute to the overall development of the nation.
Yours etc….
A Sharma
