All Srinagar flights cancelled due to fog

Srinagar Nov 23: The dense fog in Kashmir valley badly affected air and surface traffic today resulting in cancellation of all flights to and fro Srinagar Airport, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
An official at Srinagar airport said that all flights for today have been cancelled due to bad weather as no airline could operate. “All 21 flights have been cancelled and passengers were informed accordingly,” the official said. The cancellation of flights left many passengers, including tourists, stranded.
A thick layer of fog engulfed the Valley this morning leading to poor visibility. The MeT office has forecast similar weather conditions for tomorrow and wet spells later in the week due to western disturbances.
The fog also affected rail and road traffic especially in the morning hours during which an accident also occurred at Mirgund on Srinagar-Baramulla highway resulting in death of a cab driver and injuries to two passengers.
A thick layer of fog engulfed Kashmir valley this morning leading to very poor visibility. Due to poor visibility, a driver Mushtaq Ahmad was killed after his cab collided with a truck mixer in Narbal area along Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway in city outskirts in the morning. Two passengers who were travelling in the cab were injured.
The movement of Banihal-Baramulla rail was also affected today morning due to fog and passengers had to wait for hours before the train services resumed normally.
The temperature in Srinagar dipped several notches today and at several places for the first time this season it dipped below freezing point. The minimum temperature in Srinagar city today was recorded at 1.3 degrees Celsius. The overnight minimum temperatures in tourist destinations of Gulmarg and Pahalgam dipped to minus 2.5 and minus 0.9 degrees Celsius respectively.
A MeT official said forecast light rain and snowfall at isolated places in the State during the next 24 hours.
In Leh town of Ladakh region, mercury stayed at minus 0.3 degrees Celsius today.
