KATHUA, Aug 17: The alert sleuths of Forest Departments in close coordination with Excise Department today seized a large quantity of forest produce which was being smuggled outside the State at Lakhanpur Check Post.
According to Divisional Forest Officer Kathua, Ashwani Kumar a large quantity of forest produce which was being smuggled from J&K to outside the State was confiscated at Lakhanpur Forest Check Post by the sleuths of the Department during a routine checking held by a team of Forest officials led by Munish Gupta, Range Officer Lakhanpur.
He said that a truck bearing registration number JK05E -0315 when put to physical checking at Lakhanpur Check Post today it was found that the quantity of different MFPs as per the Form 25 was at variance with those physically found in the truck.
He said the truck was on its way from Salamabad Uri to outside the State. The Form 25 showed that the truck was loaded with Morchas 7081 Kgs (116 bags) Gound Chowara 498 kgs, Gugal 929 kgs and GulAnar 419 kgs. But on physical checking it was found that it was carrying Morchas 8145kgs, Gound Chowara 385 kgs, Gugal 1075 kgs, and Gul Anar 450 kgs with overall variation of 1128 kgs of excess MFPs, he added.
He said the false assertion with regard to the quantity if these MFPs in the truck imported from LOC trade at Salamabad , Uri was made to camouflage and facilitate concealed movement of admixture of MFPS which were acquired from illegal sources. It was the second such attempt in the last few days to smuggle the forest produce outside the State.
He said the seizure of them stuff was made under the Section 26(!) for the violation of Section 2, 6, 13, 15 and 16 of the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Act, 1987. The confiscation proceedings have also been initiated in this case before the authorized Officer, Kathua as per the Section 26 (2) of J&K Forest Act.
The seizure was made under the supervision of DFO Kathua Forest Division and B M Sharma Conservator of Forests, East Circle Jammu.
