JAMMU, Nov 14: Minister for Transport, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Qamar Ali Akhoon today reviewed the condition of Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway (NH) at a high level meeting of officers held here today.
Chief Engineer Project BEACON, Maj Rawath, Secretary Transport, Muhammad Abbas Dar, Transport Commissioner, Mehraj Ahmad Kakroo and senior officers of the Transport Department attended the meeting.
It was decided in the meeting that this important road link, which is only surface communication to the twin districts of Kargil and Ladakh and happens to be the lifeline for the people of the area, should remain open till the weather allows.
It was given out in the meeting that the condition of the road will be reviewed again by the concerned officers next week and the decision will be taken accordingly.
Meanwhile, the passengers travelling on this NH has been instructed to verify the traffic status of the NH from the concerned authorities before embarking their journey.
The meeting was informed that the matter for forest clearance for construction of 6.05 km long Ist phase of Z-Morh Tunnel has been taken up with the concerned department and after completing the required formalities the construction work will be started accordingly.
