JAMMU, Apr 21: All J&K Scheduled Castes (AJKSC) Welfare Association celebrated 128th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna, Babasaheb Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, under the presidentship of RL Bharti (retired IFS) in an impressive function here today.
A large number of people from all districts of Jammu province participated in the function with zeal and zest.
Dr DK Manyal, former Minister was the chief guest on the occasion, while Raj Kumar Bhagat, retired IAS Officer; Bodh Raj Dogra, Chief Engineer (retired) and Gian Chand Dogra, Educationist were the guests of honour.
The dignitaries paid floral tributes to Babasaheb on the occasion.
Earlier, after welcome address by retired Col Som Nath Dogra, General Secretary of the Association, a keynote address was delivered by RL Bharti, who highlighted the objectives and goals of the NGO.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Manyal threw light on the life history of Babasaheb and impressed upon to follow his teachings for upliftment of the society. Guests of honour also spoke on the occasion and stressed on providing quality education to the children.
Jagdish Bhagat, retired Principal, Joint Secretary of the Association, Milkhi Ram Majotra, Office Secretary, Gopal Dass, retired AGM (RBI), Member Secretary Krishan Gopal, District President Rural Jammu, Capt Joginder Pal, District President Samba, Jai Pal, Rajesh Kumar, Media Secretary, Sukhdev Raj, Youth President, Surjit Mangotra, Youth Vice President, Som Raj Kundal, District Youth President Udhampur and Sansar Chand Karorta, retired Chief Manger J&K Bank also spoke on the role of Babasaheb for upliftment of dalit samaj.
The meritorious students of the community were presented awards by the chief guest and guests of honour.
Vote of thanks was presented by Om Raj Bhall, Vice President of the Association.
