AJKPC to launch agitation for constitutional status

JAMMU, Jan 17: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) today organized a one-day empowerment convention here demanding constitutional status.
The convention saw overwhelming participation of Panchayat representatives from different blocks and district of Jammu province including the senior functionaries and members of the State executive body of the AJKPC.
On the occasion, speakers vowed to continue their fight for seeking constitutional status for the Panchayati Raj Institutions in the State.
A resolution was also passed in the convention wherein all the panchayat members demanded for strict implementation of 73rd amendment of Indian Constitution. In the resolution it was also decided that irrespective of political dispensation at the helm of affairs in the State, 33000 panchs and sarpanchs shall not dilute their stand of seeking Constitutional status for the Panchayati Raj Institutes which is the only and best remedy for ensuing democracy in the State.
The participants also resolved to make afresh awareness program in all blocks and districts of the State. “The organization shall not hesitate to come on road if their demand of implementation of 73rd amendment in toto is not agreed”, the speakers said.
Anil Sharma, president, AJKPC, said that in days to come senior functionaries and office bearers of the organization would reach every nook and corner of the State and interact with individual panchayat representatives and brief them about the advantage of incorporation of the 73rd amendment in the State Panchayati Raj Act.
He said though their organization prefers to restrain from coming on roads and adopting the path of agitation and dharnas but if their demands are not met with then they will be left with no option except agitation.
