AJKPC opposes transfer of Panchayat Bhawan to SPSA

JAMMU, July 27: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference, the premier representative body of over 40,000 elected Panchayat members of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory have submitted its written objection against the decision of the Rural Development Department to transfer possession of Panchayat Bhawan situated at Rail Head, Jammu from Director Rural Development Jammu to State Procurement and Supply Agency, (SPSA).
Anil Sharma, president of the AJKPC today filed objections with Director Rural Development Department Jammu , Kishore Singh Chib against the order of the Rural Development Department to transfer the Panchayat Bhawan along with all its assets to SPSA, in two page representation to the Director RDD, the AJKPC president urged the Rural Development Department to revoke the order issued by Principal Secretary to Rural Development Department and Panchayati Raj bearing number 172-RD & PR of 2021 dated July 13, 2021.
Sharma informed that AJKPC has requested the RDD to revoke this order of transfer of Panchayat Bhawan as this Bhawan symbolizes the Institution of Panchayats and the PRI members feel a sense of belongingness with this institutions and it is the only dedicated building for Panchayats in the region and presently it is very well used by the Department of Rural Development for providing training to PRI members and accommodation to the PRI members visiting Jammu from far off places who otherwise cannot afford private accommodation, besides holding meetings of PRI members. In the objection letter, the AJKPC has also cited security reason of the Panches and Sarpanches, BDC Chairpersons, DDC Members as the private accommodation is not recommended because many PRI members have been attacked and assassinated by the terrorists. The Panchayat body have also threatened to launch agitation if this order of transfer of Panchayat Bhawan is not revoked before Monday, August 2, 2021.
