JAMMU, Jan 21: Reitera-ting the demand of regularization of contractual lecturers engaged on Academic Arrangements in various Polytechnic Colleges all across the State, a 16 member delegation of All J&K Polytechnic Academic Arrangements Association (AJKPAAA) today met Advisor to Governor Khursheed Ahmad Ganai, who holds the charge of Technical Education.
The deputation led by Gagan Pratap Singh (president, Jammu Division) and Shahnawaz Qadir (president, Kashmir Division) drew the attention of the Advisor on three core issues viz-a-viz regularization of the contractual lecturers, revision of the salaries as an interim relief and retention of the disengaged staff in the Polytechnic Colleges in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
The deputation submitted the detailed memorandum to the Advisor while apprising him about the miserable plight of the contractual lecturers who have been rendering their services in various Polytechnic Colleges with honesty, zeal and passion for the duration ranging from 5 to 28 years on a paltry salary of Rs 9000 per month.
It also brought to the notice of the Advisor that there were almost 300 clear vacancies of lecturers and demonstrators lying vacant in all the 24 Polytechnics of J&K against which less than 200 Academic Arrangements were done during the past several years, and as such there was no financial implication for the State Government to regularize them against the clear vacancies.
Further urging for the implementation of Apex Court’s decision of ‘equal pay for equal work’ in J&K, the deputation demanded revision of the salaries of the Academic Arrangements as an interim relief until a suitable policy of their regularization was framed.
The deputation also brought to the notice of the Advisor that few Polytechnics in the State had disengaged several lecturers and demonstrators working on Academic Arrangements after taking their services for more than five years.
Advisor Khursheed Ahmad Ganai assured the delegation that a suitable policy of their regularization was under consideration which needed a concurrence of the Finance Department. He also assured the deputation about the revision of their salary besides the retention of the disengaged incumbents.
