AIR Jammu organizes Sham-e-Gazal to celebrate its Foundation Day

JAMMU, Dec 2: In connection with its Foundation Day celebration on December 1, All India Radio Jammu organized Sham-e-Gazal and dedicated this big day to its listeners.
The niche audience of Jammu was mesmerized by the soulful performances at Teacher Bhawan. The concert was set into motion with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the chief guest Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu. S K Sharma , Addl Commissioner, Income Tax Deptt Jammu; Gulchain Singh Charak, President Dogra Sadar Sabha; V K Sambyal, Ex Director, AIR Jammu; S Deedar Singh, Ex Dy Director, AIR Jammu; Dinesh Gupta, Hon Secy Jammu Chapter of Red Cross were among other dignitaries present there to witness the event.
The renowned performers like Dr Roshan Bharti, Dr Deepali Wattal and Kuldeep Rai gave a clinical display of their talent in a concert that lasted for over two hours. The event began with melodies sung by Kuldeep Rai who ably justified the wordings penned down by the famous poets Pooran Ehsaan and Ravindra Jain. This was followed by presentation by Dr Deepali Wattal whose performances on legendary poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s “Sham-e-Firaq Ab Na Poochh, Aayee Aur Aake Tal Gayee…” left the audience spellbound. Dr Roshan Bharti, Ghazal Maestro, enthralled the audience with his vibrant performances.
Rajesh Kumar DDG (E), Head of Office, AIR Jammu, in his welcome address, said that the station is proud of catering to all kind of diverse audience in the region and is the repository of various languages and dialects of the region and effectively continuing its service to the masses for the last 72 years. He said that AIR Jammu in now rendering digital services to its audience on MW, FM, DRM transmissions.
Programme Head, AIR Jammu, Renu Raina presented the vote of thanks. Proceedings of the music concert were ably conducted by Sr Announcer Madhvi Sharma. The whole event was co-ordinated by I/C Music Section, Rajesh Gupta, Programme Executive and the compositions were ably supervised by Sami Feroz.
All India Radio Jammu, the then Radio Kashmir Jammu, came into existence on the 1st of Dec 1947 and played a crucial role to counter the Pak propaganda regarding the invasion of Kashmir by the Pakistani tribal invaders. The station started its broadcast from a small accommodation in the premises of Ranbir Higher Secondary School and later on moved into its current location.
