JAMMU, May 26: Expressing deep concern over the hardships being faced by displaced Kashmiri Pandit families in obtaining and updating National Food Security Act (NFSA) ration cards, the president of the All India Kashmiri Pandit Conference (AIKPC), Rajinder Kilam, has made an appeal to the Government to either simplify, defer, or temporarily suspend the present process until the dignified return and rehabilitation of the displaced community to Kashmir.
In a statement issued here, today, Rajinder Kilam said that while welfare schemes framed by the Government are intended to provide relief and support to deserving citizens, the present NFSA procedure has unfortunately become extremely difficult, confusing, and emotionally distressing for a large section of displaced Kashmiri Pandits, particularly the younger generation working in private and corporate sectors across different parts of the country.
He stated that the mandatory procedures involving OTP verification, e-KYC formalities, digital authentication, repeated documentation, and physical coordination among family members have turned what should have been a simple welfare process into a major struggle for displaced families already burdened by decades of displacement and uncertainty.
“Thousands of displaced Kashmiri Pandit youth are employed in corporate and private sectors in faraway cities, struggling to establish themselves professionally while supporting their families. Many of them live away from their aged parents in Jammu and elsewhere. The current procedure demands coordination and digital verification in such a manner that for many families it becomes practically impossible to complete the process without the children physically travelling home,” he said.
