JAMMU : The activists of BJP and protesting members of Coordination Committee on AIIMS today clashed during Jammu bandh in this winter capital of the state.
The coordination committee had announced three-day Jammu bandh demanding AIIMS for Jammu region and against failure of the BJP leaders in not keeping their promise of bringing back the institution despite written assurance.
The committee led by its Chairman also expressed dissatisfaction over Union Health Minister J P Nadda’s statement on sanctioning AIIMS for Jammu.
The CC members this morning assembled outside the BJP headquarters amid slogans criticising the saffron brigade following which the BJP workers raised objections, which led to the scuffle. Police tried to disperse both the groups but the situation took an ugly turn and forced police to fire smoke shells.
Meanwhile, some of the protestors also pelted stones. Police however, also locked horns with the BJP and CC members and tried to defuse the tension.
Jammu today observed complete shutdown on a three days call given by the AIIMS Coordination Committee. (AGENCIES)
