SRINAGAR, Oct 14: The Jammu and Kashmir chapter of All India Backward Classes Union (AIBCU) today held a day long convention at Pulwama in South Kashmir. The problems faced by the backward classes were highlighted during the convention.
Addressing the participants of the convention, State President AIBCU, Abdul Majid Malik said that since independence the other backward classes have been neglected by the State Government. He demanded more reservation for the backward classes and said that Jammu and Kashmir Police should hold special recruitment drive for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe people.
“Gujjar and Bakerwal people living in the border areas lost their house during the two decades of militancy. The State Government should take immediate steps for the construction of houses of these people so that they live under a permanent shelter. Jobs should be given on priority to people of the backward classes so that their problems are solved,” said Malik.
Malik said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah should take a note of the difficulties being faced by the backward classes and solve them at the earliest. He said benefits of the schemes announced by the Central Government for the scheduled caste/scheduled tribe should trickle down to the grassroots level.
