Agri Deptt asks youth to make farming more remunerative

JAMMU, Apr 7: Launching Intensive Farmers’ Outreach Initiative, Director Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare, Jammu, K.K Sharma conducted field visit in Mishriwala in Marh zone today to take stock of the field activities being undertaken by the Department and held field interaction with the farmers.
He was accompanied DDC Member, Marh, Balbir Lal, Chief Agriculture Officer, Jammu, A.S. Reen and Tajinder Singh Wazir, Member JK Kissan Advisory Board  during the visit.
The team expressed their pleasure over the innovative farmers initiative of Pawn Singh Bitty of Shamachack Marh a first high tech unit in Jammu for growing of vegetables under poly house. Those present on the occasion included progressive farmers, Ashok Mahajan, Pawan Singh, Rajinder, besides AEO Misriwala, Nirmal Sharma and other field functionaries.
Director, while inspecting the high tech Poly Green House spread over an area of 2000 sq Meter at village Shama Chak established under CAPEX, asked for area expansion under protected cultivation of high value vegetable crops to attract the rural youth towards Agri entrepreneurship by making farming more remunerative and which surely will double farmers income by 2022.
He urged the farmers to organize themselves into Farmer Interest Groups (FIG) and Farmers Producers Organizations (FPOs) for better returns.
