BHADERWAH, July 18: In a bizarre incident, a Medical Officer (MO) and Sub Inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police clashed over a petty issue near the venue of Trishul Bhaint Yatra Temple this morning resulting into a strike by doctors and paramedical staff at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Bhaderwah.
The strike put OPD patients and those admitted in SDH Bhaderwah to great inconvenience as there was no one to attend them for at least five hours.
According to reports, Sub Inspector Zaheer Iqbal who was performing Yatra duty on the eve of annual Trishul Bhaint Yatra near Chandi Mata Temple Chinote stopped a vehicle and asked him not to proceed further as there was traffic restriction due to Yatra. The doctor namely Mudassir Iqbal posted as MO at SDH Bhadarwah refused to follow the instructions of the police and started arguing with the SI resulting into scuffle between the doctor and the police cop.
In the scuffle, doctor and SI got injured and were admitted at SDH Bhaderwah.
On receiving the information that their colleague has been manhandled by the police, the doctors and paramedical staff posted at SDH Bhaderwah suspended work and called for a strike demanding strict action against the erring police officer.
Later, senior officials from Civil Administration rushed to the spot and pacified the matter.
“I requested both the parties to compromise in the larger interest of the administration and society. Later, the doctors resumed emergency services”, Tehsildar Bhaderwah Dr Amir Hussain said.
