ISLAMABAD, June 1: Afghanistan has shut its consulate in Peshawar in protest over ‘harassment’, after the consul general’s vehicle was checked at a security checkpost in the Cantt area of the city. Officials of the Afghan government had confirmed that the consulate will remain closed for an indefinite time, Pakistan daily Dawn reported. “The vehicle was not following the protocol granted for official and diplomatic vehicles. As a security measure it was stopped,” security officials of Pakistan stated. The closure comes at a time when the Pakistani authorities have made arrangements to ensure border management in the Torkham crossing. (UNI)
