JAMMU, July 22: Advisor to Governor, K. Vijay Kumar today inaugurated many infrastructural developmental Projects in Government Medical College, Jammu.
In the morning, first he inaugurated the digital lecturer theatre build for country vide medical networking between the Medical professionals. He also inaugurated the three day workshop on faculty development in order to teach and train the faculty of Government Medical College, Jammu in the implementation of the new medical curriculum introduced by the Medical Council of India.
Kumar interacted with the medical faculty of this institution and observer from Medical Council of India as well as the resource persons (Prof. Dr Ashok Sharma (Coordinator-MEU/Curriculum Committee) and Dr Vishal Tandon, Dr Rajesh Sharma, Dr Rachna Magotra, Dr Mohd. Razak) of the workshop. He expressed his happiness on learning that revised basic course for faculty development has concluded on Friday in GMC, Jammu and more than 30 faculty members were trained in new competency based medical curriculum of MCI introduced this year only.
It is the first major revision to Medical curriculum since 1997, with more focus on developing attitude, ethics, skills and communication skill among Indian medical graduates over and above accruing knowledge. New teaching learning and innovative teaching learning methods have been introduced by MCI beside major change in new assessment methods for Indian Medical Graduate over all growth during the whole medical curriculum.
In the new Medical Curriculum, the lectures shall not exceed one third of the schedule.Two third of the schedule shall include interactive sessions, practicals, clinical /group discussion, integrated learning, self directed learning and early clinical exposure. The MBBS student joining this year shall undergo one month foundation course which shall start from August 1.
Dr. Sunanda Raina, Principal & Dean, GMC Jammu congratulated the participants faculty members and observer MCI and assured her that all efforts have been done by the dedicated faculty of this institution in successful implementation of medical curriculum in totality as proposed by MCI. The proceeding of the function was conducted by Dr. Rachna Sabharwal.
The Advisor also inaugurated the newly constructed Eye Bank and dedicated it to the general public. Further, He also visited the site for upcoming Spinal injury centre and already functional Modular Eye OT.
He convened the meeting of various officials to review the supplies of drug, equipments and machinery to various associated hospitals of GMC Jammu. It was attended by Principal & Dean, GMC Jammu Dr. Sunanda Raina, MD JK Medical Supplies Corporation Ltd., Administrator, Associated Hospitals, Jammu Smita Sethi, Medical Superintendents, GMC & Associated Hospitals, Jammu and the senior officials of Civil, Electrical and Mechanical wing of the GMC Jammu.
Meanwhile, Vijay Kumar reviewed the progress on pending land acquisition cases of Army, CRPF and Police here at a meeting with concerned officers.
The Divisional Commissioner Jammu gave a detailed presentation on all the land related cases of Army, CRPF, and Police. He also apprised of the present status of each pending land case.
The Advisor asked the concerned officers to evolve an effective mechanism for speedy disposal off of these pending land acquisition cases.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Home Department, Shaleen Kabra, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, Special DG CRPF, IGP Jammu, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, VC JDA besides senior officers of Army and other concerned departments.
