JAMMU, Nov 14: Advisor to Governor Khurshid Ahmad Ganai today inaugurated 65th Cooperative Week themed “Inclusive Growth and Good Governance through Cooperatives for Rural Prosperity” at Cooperative Complex, Bantalab.
Among others, Secretary Cooperatives Department Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, Registrar Cooperatives, M. M. Rehman, Additional Registrar, Jammu Tanvir Iqbal, Joint Registrars, Deputy Registrars and other senior functionaries of the Department also attended the function.
Speaking on the occasion, the Advisor emphasised on exploring the means for strengthening the Cooperative sector in the State as the sector has ample opportunities of employment generation. He stressed upon the need to revive Cooperatives with the change of times and directed to prepare a roadmap under long and short-term plans for the revival of Cooperatives.
The Advisor also assured for extending genuine support to the Housing sector under Cooperatives who could establish planned colonies in the State.
Addressing the gathering, Secretary Cooperatives emphasized the need for revival of Cooperative sector in a phased manner and expressed satisfaction over the working of the Cooperative sector.
Meanwhile, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai convened a meeting to review the implementation of State and centrally-sponsored schemes under the School Education Department.
Among others, Secretary School Education Department Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Special Secretary, School Education Department Mohammad Hussain Mir, Director, School Education, Jammu Rakesh Kumar Srangal, Director (Planning), School Education Department, Mission Director Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Director (Finance) School Education Department and other concerned attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the Advisor took a detailed review of the education scenario in the State and said the department should identify all the shortcomings in the schools and make every possible effort to rectify them as well.
The Advisor directed for expediting up-gradation of left-over Government Schools from Middle to High and High to Higher Secondary level besides providing adequate infrastructure at the elementary level.
He impressed upon the officers to make teaching-learning process more student-centric and directed for adopting activity-based learning so as to ensure maximum participation of students in the process.
He also stressed on teacher education and improving learning outcomes to enhance the quality of education in all Government schools.
He also directed to expedite progress under Capital expenditure under various schemes.
While reviewing the progress on implementation of Samgra Shiksha Abhiyan, the Advisor asked for the removal of bottlenecks, if any, besides giving publicity to the activities being undertaken under the Central Flagship Schemes.
The Advisor directed the School Education Department to identify the schools where subject-specific teachers and other infrastructure are required for promotion of Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri, Bodhi and Punjabi languages.
The Advisor also directed to conduct in-house examinations up to 7th standard in government schools for the convenience of the students.
