JAMMU, Oct 2: Advisor to Governor, Farooq Khan today advised the people to adopt Yoga for leading a balanced and healthy life.
He said that Yoga plays an important factor in discovering inner peace; sense of oneness and form a balance between mind and body.
The Advisor stated this during 53rd Yog Divas Celebrations organized by Bharatiya Yog Sansthan (BYS), Jammu at Bhartiya Yog Sansthan Yog Ashram, Gole Gujral.
Speaking on the occasion, Advisor Khan appreciated the role played by Bharatiya Yog Sansthan in promoting and teaching Yoga through a network of over 100 Yog Kendras in Jammu and surrounding areas.
He urged the people to practice Yoga in their daily routine for a healthy mind and body. Considered to be an age old mental, physical and spiritual practice, now, Yoga has been practiced globally, he said adding that, the practice of Yoga is believed to help in transforming the body and mind of the practitioners and adds years to his life.
He congratulated all those who started Jammu Chapter of Yog Sansthan and lauded the vision of its founder Lt. Prakash Lal Ji who started the organization. He asked Yog Sansthan to explore opening of a unit in Kashmir region and assured his support to the Sansthan.
J&K Prantiya Pradhan of BYS, Satya Pal, while highlighting the activities of the organization, informed that the Bharatiya Yog Sansthan has been celebrating Yog Divas every year on 2nd October with much fanfare.
Deputy CEO, SMVDSB, Arvind Karwani, in his address, thanked BYS for conducting a 15 days training module for its staff at Yog Ashram, Jammu. Annual Patrika, “Santarika” was also released besides various Yog Sadhaks were felicitated for promoting Yoga on the occasion.
Director, Rural Development, Sudershan Kumar, Corporators- Dwarika Choudhary and Jaideep Sharma, large number of Yoga practitioners besides Shikshaks and Sadhaks of the Sansthan attended the function.
Meanwhile, Farooq Khan attended the commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Teacher Bhawan. The function was organized by Directorate of School Education, Jammu.
Commissioner Secretary, School Education, Sarita Chauhan, Director, School Education, Jammu (DSEJ), Anuradha Gupta, Chairperson, JKBOSE, Prof. Veena Pandita?, Joint Directors of DSEJ, CEOs, Principals, ZEOs, Teachers and students in large number were present on the occasion.
The felicitations of the teachers of Government run Schools across Jammu Division by the Advisor for contributing towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and other such programmes was one of the main highlights of the event.
The Advisor asserted that the future of the country is with young generation and whatever lessons they are learning from their teachers regarding cleanliness, they shall spread the same in the society for a better and healthy tomorrow.
During her welcome address, Director, DSEJ, Anuradha Gupta informed that the students in large numbers are participating in several initiatives launched by the Prime Minister.
The event was commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp followed by the welcome song by the students of GHSS Canal Road and Guru Vandana by GHSS Mubarak Mandi.
Short plays on Gandhian Philosophy and ‘Jal Shakti’ were presented by the students of GHSS Mubarak Mandi and HSS Jourian. Documentary on ‘Initiatives taken by DSEJ in realizing the dreams of Mahatma Gandhi’ and a Short video on ‘Swachhta ke Stars’ featuring the Swachhta activities done by the teachers were also showcased.
