Admn devises Action Plan for Road Safety; assigns tasks

Directs for installation of GPS in passenger vehicles

SRINAGAR, Sept 16: The district administration Ganderbal has chalked out an Action Plan for Road Safety measures under which several steps will be taken in the district, including installing GPS in passenger vehicles and implementing the Intelligent Transport System.
In this regard, a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was held under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, in which several decisions were made after due deliberation among the committee members.
The decisions that have been taken include data compilation of Road Accidents that happened in District Ganderbal in the year 2022, for channelizing relief to the victims of Road Accidents under the Road Accident Victim Fund apart from conducting extensive awareness regarding Road Safety measures in schools and different places of the district among the general public.
ARTO Dy. SP Traffic, Ganderbal have been tasked to take up the installation of complete GPS in private vehicles while as a matter of availability of Hill Recovery Cranes, it was decided that the Police department will take up with the J&K Road Safety Council.
Further, the representatives of the Police Department informed the meeting that the proposal regarding additional manpower and re-organization of Traffic Police has been submitted to higher authorities.
The meeting was also told by the PMGSY that they do regular training of engineers concerning road safety and that the last training was held July 25 this year.
On the occasion, a committee was also formulated and which has been given several tasks to accomplish. The concerned Committee shall make a survey from Gadoora to Buchpora route via Umerhair and submit a proposal for its widening within 15 days. It will also carry out a survey on District Hospital Ganderbal Road for making traffic decongested and cutting down Chinar Trees along its sides.
During the meeting, the Executive Engineer, PWD R&B, Ganderbal put up a suggestion that Canal Road via Nagbal Rangil through Gutlibagh to Preng can be repaired and made conducive for Traffic movement.
“For its exotic scenery, the said Road can be good for tourist attraction. In this regard Executive Engineer, PWD R&B, Ganderbal requested that the matter be taken with the concerned.”
Many issues regarding BEACON were discussed during the meeting, but the BEACON authorities were not present. The Deputy Commissioner directed Additional District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal to issue a show cause notice to the Officer Commanding, BEACON for not attending the meeting.
The meeting also decided that a proposal regarding Intelligent Transport System shall be sent to Housing & Urban Development Department by the Executive Officer, MC Ganderbal, and the ARTO Ganderbal
The concerned have been directed to ensure the removal of Encroachments, Hoardings in the Ganderbal within the stipulated time for which the Executive Officer MC, Ganderbal has been advised to do the needful.
