JAMMU, May 5: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC), a frontline organisation of elected PRI members, today urged the UT administration to absorb Panchayat gardener-cum-guards and landowners, who have donated their land holdings for development projects, as permanent daily wagers in different Government departments.
In this regard, AJKPC and the Union of Panchayat gardener-cum-guards (Panchayat Maali/ Chowkidaar) submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Jammu for further submission to the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha.
During the day-long convention of Panchayat gardener-cum-guards under the chairmanship of AJKPC UT president Anil Sharma at the AJKPC office, the Union leaders of Panchayat gardeners and guards raised various problems being faced by them and urged the Government for early redressal of their issues.
“We appeal to the UT administration that they should take a sympathetic view over the problems being faced by the Panchayat gardeners and guards since long and immediate measures should be taken so that some relief is provided to them. All the Panchayat gardeners-cum-chowkidars and landowners should be adjusted in different Government departments as permanent daily wagers and they should be paid a minimum wage of Rs 300 per day and Rs 9,000 per month,” Anil Sharma said.
He also demanded that the Government should ensure their biometric attendance and their salary should be credited directly into their accounts.
The AJKPC also made a fervent appeal to all elected Sarpanches and Panches that they should submit a resolution to the Lieutenant Governor in support of demands of Panchayat gardeners-cum-guards.
Earlier, a union leader Shahnawaz Choudhary regretted that elected representatives of the people including MPs and former MLAs never bothered to raise their voice and they were ignored in every aspect of life.
Another leader Dev Dutt Bhagat extended gratitude to the AJKPC for raising the genuine issues of Panchayat gardeners and guards. He disclosed that there are over 1000 persons as on date working as Panchayat Gardener Cum Guards in different Panchayats of Kashmir and Jammu region.
Several Sarpanchs including Hans Raj Thakur, John Mohd, Balwan Singh, Manzoor Hussain, SC Khajuria and others also spoke on the occasion.
